To the Editor:

Despite Democrats claim to need time to decide how they will vote on the approval of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, Patrick Leahy’s insistence on a week’s delay of Judiciary Committee vote comes down to one thing: Money.

The delay will allow left-wing groups to use “the sky is falling” scare tactics to raise money from those sympathetic to their views or who think that Roe v Wade is the only important Supreme Court case in American history. Those groups will then donate money to the campaigns of Democratic Senators to encourage them to oppose Alito.

Although the financial nature of the Democrats’ tactics is transparent, they will likely get most or all of the week’s delay they want. Alito will be confirmed and the partisan divide in government will have become that much wider as the Democrats’ money-grubbing abuses this important process.
