Backbone Radio, April 11th, 2010: Jane Norton, Tom Lucero, and First Principles of Capitalism and Liberty
First, allow me to wish my dad a very happy 70th birthday today! (He’s actually celebrating it in Jerusalem…but I’ll buy him a birthday dinner when he comes to visit in a couple of weeks.)
—
Please join me by listening to (and calling in to) this week’s Backbone Radio program from 5 PM to 8 PM on 710 AM KNUS in Denver and 1460 AM KZNT in Colorado Springs.
If you’re not in range of the radio waves, you should be able to listen to the show online by clicking HERE.
I’ll be going without a sidekick this week…not that Krista has been anything but great company for the last two shows. So please give me a call and join the conversation!
Our main focus this week will be on first principles, on adding some intellectual clarity to the swirling chaos of liberal rhetoric and poorly-conceived “conservative” responses, with the intention of arming you with a little more intellectual ammunition for our ongoing battle against the forces of big government, tyranny, and the Nanny State. In particular, we will discuss capitalism – why it is the best economic system and the only one with a truly moral foundation.
During the first hour, we’ll be joined by Tom Lucero, a Regent of the University of Colorado and a candidate (along with our last show’s guest, Cory Gardner) for the Republican nomination to unseat Betsey “I was against it before I was for it” Markey in Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District.
In addition to talking about his race, Tom and I will talk about just what a Regent does as well as what he sees in the future for CU, particularly during these times of state budget crisis.
In the 6-o’clock hour, you and I will discuss “first principles". The importance of a solid philsophical and economic foundation to understanding public policy can’t be overstated. And you, fellow fighter in the battle for liberty, can’t be the most effective advocate for freedom unless you know why you believe what you believe and know why liberty-oriented policy solutions offer the best outcome in the long term. I really hope you’ll actively participate in the conversation with me, via phone 303 696 1971, e-mail at ross(at)710knus.com, or instant message from my site at http://rossputin.com.
During the 7 PM hour, we will be joined by Jane Norton, Republican candidate for the US Senate, hoping to unseat Michael Bennet, and running against Ken Buck, Tom Wiens, and others for the GOP nomination. In order to make sure our short time with Mrs. Norton is used efficiently, I won’t take calls on the air during that time. However, if you call in and give Joshua a question you want asked, or if you e-mail or IM a question any time during or before the show, I will select among your questions and ask them of Jane Norton.
Again, I encourage listener participation so please call, e-mail, or instant message me, and join in the conversation.
The studio call-in number is 303-696-1971. Add it to your speed dial!
I have implemented an instant messaging “widget” on my website at Rossputin.com, so if you go to my main blog page, you should see the IM form on the right. You can shoot me a message during the show and if it’s relevant I’ll respond on air or by return message.
Also, I will check e-mail during the show, so feel free to e-mail me at ross (at) 710knus.com (click on that text to open an e-mail to me!)

SEMPER FI:
U.S. Senate candidate Jane Norton has unquestionable integrity and honor, having grown up in a wonderful family. Jane has unselfishly, lovingly spent so much time with her father who was in severe declining health, and in Hospice.
Her father, Walter “Bus” Bergman of Grand Junction, died last month at the age of 89. During World War II, he was a major in the 229th Sixth Marine Division and received the Bronze Star for heroism during the bloody battles at Okinawa and Sugar Loaf Hill.
Her father is a member of six athletic halls of fame, including his induction into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Colorado State University Hall of fame in 1993.

Jane Norton has no integrety.
When she went down in the polls she has made a conscious decision to LIE about Ken Buck.
People of integrety don't lie.
She claims Buck, the DA from Weld county is the Washington DC Insider, not her. Here is the write up on her fundraiser in February in DC.

The issue about "Washington insider" is massively overplayed.
I don't think it's particularly important that Jane has friends in DC.
That said, I think it's a stretch to call Ken a Washington insider.
