Coloradoans make historic mistake with Ref C

Colorado taxpayers made what I believe will turn out to be a historic mistake by approving Referendum C yesterday.

I expected the winning side to get 52% at the most, which is what happened...but I hoped it was the "No" side that would get that number.

I am not particularly concerned with the obvious 5-year cost of this measure. Instead, what worries me is the much-longer-term cost of a government which will be forever bigger, more expensive, and less fiscally disciplined.

I believe that the state government will pass programs which will demand feeding the way a drug addict demands drugs, and that 5 years from now the state will be back claming more financial problems and asking for a tax increase. Time will tell.

Boulder County, where I live, also voted itself out of compliance with TABOR, not surprising in a place that people call "The People's Republic of Boulder".

Liberals and do-gooders think that they are accomplishing good things by "sacrificing for the common good". All they have done in this election is feed an insatiable desire by government to tax and spend, and reward government for refusing to have any fiscal discipline. Rewarding bad behavior only encourages more of it, and I predict that's exactly what we'll see.

Ross, Sorry things didn't go better in the voting. I'm kind of glad we sold our land in Pagosa Springs now. One of the reasons we did it was because of the rising tax rates. I hope they don't turn into California over there.

    Coloradans Give Up The Dough
Ever since I moved to Colorado I've been following the back and forth banter about Colorado Referendums C and D. Referendum C, a suspension of Colorado's Tax Payer Bill of Rights (TABOR) giving the state government $3.7 billion in tax...
