To the Editor:
Carolyn Phillips statement that increased attention to African-American school children should not come “at the expense of English language learners” would be justifiable if those “learners” were legal American residents. However, since that phrase is simply code for a group containing at least a large minority of illegal aliens, better schooling for African-Americans…emphasis on AMERICANS…can and should be at the expense of many “English language learners.”
Ms. Phillips is really saying that taxpayers should spend more money to educate Black kids because illegals are sucking up too many resources. Of course, teachers unions want to increase the number of kids in school, legal or otherwise, because it supports their political and financial ends, but taxpayers should have none of it.
Leaders of the Black community may have a real gripe with how their kids are taught, but Coloradans should not consider another cent for public education until the schools stop spending Americans’ money on illegal aliens…and if they do, more money will not be necessary.
