Extending my offer to match donations for Katrina relief

Response to my offer last week to match 50% of donations which readers notified me of was initially slow, but has improved substantially this weekend. In order to allow readers of rossputin.com to make me give the maximum, I am extending my offer until this coming Wednesday.

Whatever amount you, the readers, e-mail me as your having donated, I will match 50% of that amount up to a gift of $1,500 on my part.

Actually, allow me to modify my original proposal: I'll give a maximum of $2,000 instead of $1,500.

Please e-mail me with your donations and make me give more!

I will post the results (in summary, with no names used) and my own actions on Thursday morning.

You can read my offer, posted on Wednesday, by clicking here.

OK, you talked me into it. Been meaning to anyway. Tomorrow I go to the Post Office and pay NOK500 to the Norwegian Red Cross' fund for Katrina. In your name (figuratively). That's something in excess of US$50; match it!

The Norwegian government, along with Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iran, Cuba and others, offered money which long wasn't accepted. Of course, that's nonsense, anyway. The USA has money.

The Norwegian Red Cross has sent a small team of people experienced in organizing aid and assistance. The American Red Cross accepted that offer. Quickly.

The Norwegian government has offered to send the U.S. government a team of divers who can do underwater search and rescue, damage evaluation and small underwater repairs. The team in question happens to be doing training in Halifax, Canada, and they could have been in New Orleans days ago. As far as I've heard, the U.S. government hasn't (yet) accepted that offer. It could STILL save lives, I should think.

With all the offers pouring in, I'm sure it ain't easy to process them all. A cryin' shame.
