An 82-year old Austrian tour guide being questioned for possibly stealing artifacts led officials to a group of underground tombs in Veio, Italy (near Rome) in hopes of getting more lenient treatment. In one of these tombs, archaeologists found what they believe to be 2,700 year old wall paintings representing the oldest such art in Western history.
Somehow I find it very satisfying to be reminded that there are still things to discover about history and humanity, and that we really don't know it all.

Not to contradict great archelogists (Italian at that) but these drawings can't be that old. They were published in the twentieth century. Check them out on: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0060254920/sr=8-1/qid=1150765872/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-9751955-8108649?%5Fencoding=UTF8
