From the “please tell me he didn’t really say that” files comes General George Casey, the Army Chief of Staff, who said on Meet the Press on Sunday regarding the terrorist massacre of our soldiers at Fort Hood last week “And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.”

No, I’m not kidding.  He really said that.

This man should be busted down three or four ranks and given a dishonorable discharge.

Seriously, a guy whose only function in life is to make sure that our soldiers win wars and come home alive is arguing that preserving “diversity” in the Army is more important than the lives of 13 people under his command?!?

What brain-dead, unsustainable politically-correct world does this man live in?

How could a soldier of that rank and experience believe such a thing, and if he doesn’t believe it why did he say it?

Can you imagine the effect on morale on our Army bases when the highest ranking member of the Army says that damage to diversity would be WORSE than the murder of 13 soldiers by an American officer?  Sure, there may be two dozen Muslim members of the Army who are pleased with Casey’s intent. But even those people, if they are the deeply patriotic people that Casey seems to believe (and which I don’t doubt in most cases) can’t believe, if they’re good soldiers, that Casey’s statement is anything but idiotic at best and dangerous at worst.

Indeed, if you want to ensure that Muslims in the US military are viewed with maximum suspicion and dislike, let the rest of the military believe that the Muslims are a special protected class because of “diversity” even though statistically speaking they pose a far greater risk, per soldier, than any other religious group.

General Casey: It’s time to start profiling, or to be complicit in murder the next time something like Fort Hood happens.

What makes the diversity of the military so strong (if you’re a person who believes that such things are important, which I most certainly don’t) is that it’s organic.  People from all walks of life join because they want to.  It’s not forced, based on quotas, etc.  Once diversity becomes a policy, the nature of the military changes entirely.  And a policy of diversity can only do damage to the military’s mission, which is NOT to serve as one large group hug or tolerance training session.  The military, and especially the Army and Marines are there to kill people and break things.  It doesn’t matter if the soldier is White, Black, Jewish, Christian, or Muslim, except to the extent that one of those groups seems far more likely to contain traitors within our midst.

I have an alternative suggestion for General Casey.  Let’s discourage Muslims from joining the military. Then we can spend less on all the surveillance and investigation that the military should do of active-duty Mulims, but will be afraid to do, especially under a president whose sentiments almost certainly mirror the borderline-treasonous remarks of General Casey.
