Marc Holtzman's lies about Bob Beauprez

Beauprez Press Release, 10/5/05

Although I am a supporter of Bob Beauprez for Governor of Colorado, as someone who is scared to death of a Democrat winning the Governor's race in Colorado, I would be inclined to support (both financially and with my vote) whichever Republican won the primary. But your "both ways Bob" advertisements and press releases, as well as your intentionally misleading statements about Beauprez's bank ads are so repugnant that I will not vote for Holtzman nor contribute to the campaign even if he wins the primary.

When Bob Beauprez said we might have to swallow the bitter pill of Referendum C, he in no way implied that he supported it, and in public and private statements since then he has never wavered in his opposition to C. He simply said that it might pass...hardly an endorsement and something which could not be confused as an endorsement. Your characterization of Beauprez's position is intentionally misleading (on one of the biggest issues our state as faced for years) and makes it impossible for me to have any respect for Marc Holtzman or his campaign.

Additionally, regarding Beauprez's bank ads: He made those ads before he was a candidate for congress...before anyone even knew where the 7th Congressional District would be. He had made similar ads for years before, and the only ads that ran after he became a candidate were ones which he had paid for before he had become one. He didn't buy more air time once he was a candidate for Congress.

As a professional financial market trader, I understand that entrepreneurs and financiers are very different in temperament from politicians. In general, I have much in common with people of Marc's background. Additionally, I always like supporting economically conservative Jewish candidates. (I assume Marc is Jewish, as I am.) But the behavior of the Holtzman campaign, for which Marc must take responsibility, is simply unacceptable.

It may sound idealistic, but part of the problem with politics these days is the complete lack of respect that the citizenry has for politicians. And who can blame them? I don't agree with Bob Beauprez on everything. But I'm confident that I would never be embarrassed by having voted for him; he represents his district, Colorado, and Congress with dignity and professionalism. Based on the Holtzman campaigns recent ads and press releases, I can have no such confidence about Marc Holtzman.

I'm used to repugnant rhetoric from the Democrats....they have to lie because their fundamental principles are wrong. But for the Holtzman campaign to resort to this sort of trash simply because you can't otherwise distinguish your positions from Beauprez's is unworthy of Marc Holtzman and unworthy of a potential governor. Your tactics eliminate Holtzman as a potential recipient of my donations or my vote.
