Cord Macguire’s letter describing his support of the “Iraqi resistance”, i.e. murderers of mostly civilians, represents exactly what one would expect from a self-declared member of the Communist Party, as Macquire is. Macguire lies about what is happening now, confuses right from wrong, and has no understanding of history.

First, the US is not “dominating” Iraq. If that were the case, why would our government and our people have celebrated their democratically-held elections? Second, the insurgency in Iraq primarily kills Iraqi civilians, hardly acts of righteousness. And third, a proper mirror to the American Revolution would have been the Iraqi Shi’ites rising up to overthrow Saddam and the Sunni minority’s tyranny. In other words, Mr. Macguire is wrong about absolutely everything.

Macguire does not understand our Declaration of Independence (but would you expect a proud Communist to get it?): Jefferson’s point was that the American people have a right and a duty to overthrow its own government should it become a tyranny. The Declaration is not about “foreign domination”, as mid-18th century Americans did not consider the British foreigners, but rather that their own government had turned to despotism requiring revolution.

No thanks to the political views he holds, Americais a free country and Cord Macguire has the right to communicate his garbage. If he lived in a country where his beloved Communists were in power, he would likely be jailed or executed as a traitor. Despite his claims of hewing to American values, what Macguire and his type do is use American values as a shield while simultaneously doing everything they can to undermine them. Let’s be very clear here: Macguire and people like him are “rooting for” Americans to die. Whether you approve or disapprove of the war in Iraq, Macguire’s position deserves your undying enmity and derision.
