Senate stupidity on illegal aliens and college tuition

Those Senators who are complaining that Republicans torpedoed their own immigration compromise have the "compromise" itself to blame. A bill that had a lot of promise, despite claims of it being an "amnesty", was allowed to contain at least one fatal flaw: Allowing illegal aliens to qualify for in-state tuition for state universities.

This means than an illegal alien from Mexico would get a lower price to attend the University of Colorado than would someone from Wyoming. It's truly an insane provision and one which even moderate Republicans and members from very pro-business districts would have a very difficult time defending to their constituents.

While I wish the Congress would get their act together and get something done on the illegal alien issue (and I probably would support something much more "liberal" than many of my readers), the result simply can not be to treat migrant workers and illegals better than Americans.
