Sudan: A Terrorist Nation
Sudan: A Terrorist Nation Guest Posting by Mike DePinto Osama Bin Laden provided yet another reason why the United States needs to send troops to the Sudan. In a tape authenticated by American intelligence officials, Bin Laden allied himself with the Sudanese government and called “on his followers to go to the Sudan to fight a proposed United Nations force in Darfur.” The Janjaweed’s prolonged attack on the people of Darfur continues with military and political backing from the Sudanese government despite efforts by the U.N. and the United States to stem the violence. The U.S. has its hands full militarily in Iraq and sending troops to new conflict would surely put a strain on the armed forces. Yet, the Sudan has shown it supports Osama Bin Laden and gave him refuge less than a decade ago. Ignoring the threats and comments of the most notorious terrorist alive makes little sense. The U.S. should not allow the situation in the Sudan to spill over into bordering nations any more than it has and should stop a regime that has harbored terrorist and facilitates genocide. Note: The Save Darfur: Rally to Stop Genocide march will begin at 2pm on Sunday April 30, 2006 in the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Our friends, my girlfriend, and I will be among the protesters marching and calling for U.S. involvement in stopping the nightmare in Darfur.
