The Denver Post supports offshore drilling!

My jaw nearly hit the floor when I read the Denver Post's editorial this weekend that they support overturning the ban on offshore drilling. Here is my letter to the Post about their editorial.

I am impressed that the Denver Post, a paper which so strongly supports Democrats, including a supporter of high energy prices like Mark Udall, has the courage to take the correct position on offshore drilling.

After Monday’s announcement by President Bush that he was lifting the executive order banning drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf, last week’s record-breaking plunge in oil prices could not have been a coincidence.

Liberal activists and your editorial argue that since new drilling will take a long time to produce new oil, it couldn’t possibly affect oil prices now. Anyone who has ever invested or traded knows that position is, economically speaking, insane.

So whether the Denver Post is coming out for overturning the ban on drilling because you truly believe it or because you want to give cover to Democratic politicians who want to change their positions, I thank you for your remarkably reasonable position on this issue.
