The media and climate change
re "Growing Number of Americans See Warming as Leading Threat" (Washington Post, 4/20/06) http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/19/AR2007041902527.html? To the Editor: It is hardly surprising that a Washington Post/ABC News poll shows Americans more fearful than ever of climate change given that the Post, ABC, and every other major mainstream media outlet have drunk the climate alarmists’ kool aid on the issue. If the media were not scaring Americans, you would not be fulfilling your self-appointed role as the supporters of all things Democrat and the opponents of economic rationality and liberty. I could point to the fear of “global cooling” just a generation ago to demonstrate how the public can become manic about non-science paraded as a coming catastrophe. But your very article contains the reason such polls should be ignored: That so many respondents answered that air pollution is a major environmental problem shows how little they know. Air quality, like water quality and nearly any other measure of our quality of life and health, is the best it has ever been in the industrial age of our country. I look forward to the day when the Post and ABC report the factual good news rather than Al Gore’s fear-mongering.
