Time to boycott UPS and use FedEx
The Washington Times reports on a sneaky move by a Democratic Congressman to “kneecap FedEx” in a bid to help unions and UPS. Let’s make UPS pay for that abuse of government and encourage them to get Congressman Oberstar to remove his poison pill.

Can you explain how a UPS driver delivering a package is different from a FedEx driver delivering a package?
06/11/09 @ 06:20:50 pm
They're not very different except that ground is a huge part of UPS's business and a small part of FedEx's business. Furthermore, I strongly object to any regulation proposed simply to make one company as non-competitive as another by making it as susceptible to pressure from unions.

So much of what FedEx is saying are lies and all the information on brownbail out is dis-information.
Truck Drivers deliver packages. Truck drivers are governed by the NLRA. FedEx's drivers are classified as "independent contractors", even though the company regulates everything about that independent contractor (uniform, truck, hours, etc, etc), so they fall under the RLA.
The only thing this law would do is classify Fedex's driver as drivers, giving the employee's more rights and benefits.
Currently, only Fedex as a company benefits from the laws in place now and has an advantage over all competitors, including UPS. The new law only takes away from FedEx’s profits, and as many reporters have said, if FedEx is such a great place to work, why are they worried that their "independent contractors" will unionize.
If you’re a top CEO of a huge corporation, you may not want to see the bill pass, even if it doesn’t effect you. If you’re American and work, you may want to see the bill pass because your fellow American workers are getting screwed by the current law.

So, Rob, you're arguing that the regulation of FedEx should change because the regulation of UPS makes UPS less competitive? Why don't you guys ever argue that the regulation of UPS should be changed to make it more competitive?
06/18/09 @ 02:49:07 pm
Rossputin, I wouldn't say I was arguing anything, I'm just stating facts.
I wouldn't argue that "the regulation of UPS should be changed to make it more competitive" (though I believe they tried), because the regulation of UPS is true. It is regulated as it should be by law. Its truck drivers are under the regulation for truck drivers. FedEx's truck drivers are not.
There are many, many articles on the FedEx’s campaign, and just about all of them show that what Fedex is doing is very bad, with calling it a "governmental bailout", as if UPS is part of the financial sector.
Even the post on this page is just false;
"Let’s make UPS pay for that abuse of government and encourage them to get Congressman Oberstar to remove his poison pill."
FedEx takes advantage of how it is regulated under the RLA, so pretty much they've been given an advantage the entire time they have had truck drivers delivering packages, and UPS is legally campaigning so employees from both companies who do the same work, are regulated for the actual work they do....and Fedex is calling that a bailout for UPS?? An abuse of government??
Fedex is the company that used loop holes to circumvent employees rights and benefits, but UPS must pay for "that abuse of government" by lobbying for a bill that would remove Fedex's advantage over all other competition, not just UPS.
Shady, shady shady, dishonest, dishonest, dishonest.
And then FedEx is threatening to stop its order of Boeing planes in the event the law passes? According to FedEx’s public relations, drivers are treated great. Then why are they so scared of them being able to speak up for themselves through a union?

I found this article to be informative.

I will do my best to avoid UPS in the rest of my life. In single one month, I experienced package loss, insufficient refund, damaged package, plus wrong bill. UPS is really a company deserving bankcrupcy! What the heck are they doing???
