Whose priorities?

A nugget for thought:

In his press conference this morning, John Boehner, soon to be Speaker of the House, repeatedly referred to the GOP’s focus on “what the people want", “what the people expect", “what the people demand", etc., i.e. focusing on the will of the electorate.

Mitch McConnell made a similar point when he said that one key message of the election to Democrats should be that choosing their president over their constituents was a bad strategy.

Then, in a near-perfect contrast, Barack Obama, during his press conference, talked about how he and congressional Republicans would have to sit down and talk about “our priorities."  As always, and even when speaking as if sincerely chastened, Barack Obama is all about Barack Obama and his far-left vision for transforming the nation.  He’s completely missed the point that the people don’t want him to focus on his priorities, but rather on ours – and they’re very different.

He will make small (but very public) efforts to “get something done” on some relatively less controversial issue, perhaps a free-trade treaty, but his goals are still all around “green energy” and redistributing the wealth.  It was almost amusing to hear Obama say that the primary message of the election was a message to Republicans.  Sure, you can spin this any way you want, but it seems to me that the key message of the election nationwide (despite the mistakes of the GOP here in Colorado) was indeed to Democrats: We hate what you’ve done.  And, secondarily to Republicans: Get in there and stop any more damage, and roll back what you can.

I don't see Obama self reflecting to the point of changing his behavior. Have seen this personality and habits will re-emerge in short order.

What the GOP can do is everything the Dems falied to do. Keep the conversation public, Ensure ideas are backed up with data and examples not strawmen, engage the public do not talk at them, move from sound bites, Link everything to values and principles of conservatisim,

IGNORE the media when it is in BS mode. I am reminded of the healthcare summit where the GOP won points for solid thoughtful interaction in a public forum.

    1. Send up the healthcare repeal and let Obama veto it
    2. Send up the 2008 budget and let Obama veto it
    3. If in lame duck session, the Bush tax cuts go forth, send up a 1% less than before across the board tax cut and a lower corporate tax rate and let Obama veto it.
    4. Defund NPR (although symbolic, very important to do that)
    5. Gut the EPA
    6. Eliminate the Depts of Ed., Energy and Homeland Security
    5. Keep Eric Cantor out front explaining the proposed budget strategy so the people see the contrast.

Airbus, I think the dem controlled senate will stop most of that before it even gets to Obama's desk. Good news, it makes the senate dems look obstructionist.

I hope he keeps acting like the arrogant ass that he is. It is detrimental to his re-election efforts.
