"With confident smile and kind eyes"...

I saw this ad on Tuesday night, and I didn't know whether to laugh, cry, or scream. I suppose as much as anything it says a lot about the audience who normally watches "Nancy Grace", which is what my wife had on (yes, I deny all responsibility) at the time.

It's an ad for...wait for it...an "Obama Victory Plate". I'm not kidding. It's "complete with the inscription 'Change Has Come' and of course comes with a display stand.

I've watched the ad three times, sort of in the way you might repeatedly watch a train wreck.

Actually, I missed one potential reaction. Rather than laugh, cry, or scream, I think I might just vomit.

I've seen that ad. What's your problem with it? I would have thought a cornerstone of capitalist thought is sell what there's a market for. And never mind considerations of taste.

They'll sell enough of those plates to turn a profit and create jobs and invest their earnings and I thought people like you approved of all this.

I still remember the vast tons of schlock that were created and sold after Kennedy was murdered. Talk about poor taste.

And you remember, I'm sure, what Menken said. "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the bad taste of the American people." Maybe he said intelligence. It applies either way.
    Cordially,

    Bob

    hey Bob,

I don't object to their right to do it, obviously.

I'm dismayed that they think there's a market for it!

I saw that a couple of days ago and felt the same way. It seems a bit early to be minting the man onto commemorative coins, don't you think? I guess if there's a demand, then great.

When they start selling tiny Obama crucifixes, I'm drawing the line, though.

I love it. Now we can start the buzz for getting him up on Mt. Rushmore, instead of that Actor feller, what's his name......
